Lawrence Barsoto gives a feeling of extraordinariness in the ordinary daily life. It also brings to mind man’s innate way to survive…to relieve his boredom in so many ways. Although it tells hope of escape of these things, there is still no automatic heaven, no quick fixes.
Lawrence Borsoto rethinks notions of daily life as quotidian, random, and tedious. For him, it is magical and transformative. His vignettes of the everyday flesh out the almost indiscernible, but nonetheless substantial, miracles that leaven the humble acts of cooking or keeping house, of acting on the capacities and frailties of being human. Borsoto demystifies the supernatural veneer of the anting-anting and thinks about it as part and parcel of waking life.
Kulay-Diwa is a venue for Philippines and Southeast Asian Contemporary Art. Inaugurated on February 7, 1987, Kulay-Diwa, is strategically located within a cluster of communities South of Manila. It has five independent exhibition areas able to accommodate large-scale works and a garden ideal for programs, performances and sculpture installations. The goals of the gallery are to discover and promote the works of young, talented but deserving Filipino Artists and to foster cultural interaction and exchanges with the local regions and other countries.
