Daniel Coquilla, aka Cox at NISMED and Dansoy in the art world, is a Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Thirteen Artists Awardee 2006. A triennial event, the award recognizes the potentials of progressive artists who “draw public attention to the need for art and its critical sensibilities in our national quest for social transformation.”

Known for his “from the top” view of scenes from everyday life, Cox represents faces looking at the viewer as one looks at, and into, the painting’s details. His works, as well as his titles, are whimsical and at times satirical, reflecting Cox’s very nature.

Multi-awarded at age 36, Cox is the video editor at the Audiovisual Group. His other major awards include: Award of Excellence-24th Shell National Student Art Competition 1991; Grand Prize-AAP Annual Painting Competition 1996; Juror’s Choice-Philip Morris 4th ASEAN Art Awards 1997; UP Gawad Chanselor para sa Sining Biswal 1998; Philippine Winner-Winsor and Newton Worldwide Millennium Painting Competition 1999.
